In volute pumps, the impeller is located inside a spiral chamber. The fluid enters the chamber from the suction section of the volute pump and then passes through the eye section of the impeller. As the rotor and impeller connected to it rotate, centrifugal force is applied to the fluid, causing it to move towards the outer edges of the impeller in a radial direction. The design of the pump’s volute chamber and shell is such that its cross-sectional area and area gradually increase along the flow. Based on the laws of fluid science and the law of conservation of mass, we know that the cross-sectional area and flow velocity are inversely related. As a result, with a continuous increase in the cross-sectional area, the flow velocity decreases, which in turn increases the fluid pressure at the pump outlet.
