Investigation of inert gas fire extinguishing system

Gas fire extinguishing systems (IG 55):

IG 55 gas is a mixture of argon and nitrogen atmospheric gases with a chemical composition of 50% argon and 50% nitrogen. This gas does not have destructive effects on the ozone layer and has zero thermal potential and atmospheric lifetime, and it is a more suitable option than carbon dioxide and halons from an environmental point of view.

IG 55 gas is non-toxic, odorless, inert and non-conductive. And it is kept in pressurized cylinders with a pressure of about 200 to 300 bar. The design of this gas is such that a large amount of it is discharged within 60 seconds. The design and implementation of the IG 55 gas fire extinguishing system is based on NFPA 2001.

Gas fire extinguishing system (IG 541 gas):

IG 541 gas is a mixture of atmospheric gases of argon, nitrogen and carbon dioxide with a chemical composition of 40% argon, 52% nitrogen and 8% carbon dioxide. IG 541 gas is non-toxic, odorless, ineffective and non-conductive.

IG 541 gas does not have destructive effects on the ozone layer and has zero thermal potential and atmospheric lifetime, so it is a better and more suitable option than carbon dioxide and halons from an environmental point of view. IG 541 gas is stored in pressurized cylinders with a pressure of about 200 to 300 bar. The design and implementation of the IG 541 gas extinguishing system is based on NFPA 2001.

IG 541 gas extinguishes the fire by reducing the oxygen in the environment. The advantage of this gas is the presence of carbon dioxide in it, because when oxygen decreases, it causes rapid breathing and the person present does not suffer from lack of oxygen.

In order to extinguish the fire, the oxygen level must reach at least 14%.

Gas fire extinguishing system (IG-100):

Nitrogen gas, referred to as IG-100, makes up about 80% of air and is known as the most widely used neutral gas in Class C fire extinguishing (fire caused by electrical equipment). Due to the natural abundance of this gas in the earth’s atmosphere, its greenhouse effect is zero, and in the same way, it will not have any destructive effect on the ozone layer. It is chemically inert, non-conductive, colorless, odorless and non-corrosive.
