This type of valve is designed so that the water entering the hydrant and the main valve are installed below the freezing line. Since the pipe and the main body of the valve are usually dry and only flow water when in use, the possibility of freezing is impossible. This type of hydrant with a dry chamber is also known as a “Frost Proof” valve.
